ON THE LITERARY WORK OF ŠÁRKA ŠIŠKOVÁ

The debut book of academic painter Šárka Šišková (born February 2, 1966, Zlín), And What About Love?, was published in 2018 and contains three independent stories. A year later, she released her first novel, A Perfect Life?, which she wrote during her work stay in Hong Kong. According to the author:
“The setting of this city plays an important role in a story about the complexity of relationships and the search for happiness. The main characters are two brothers – Viktor, living his version of a perfect life, and his younger brother Matěj, who experiences unexpected love for the first time in his life, as fragile as butterfly wings.”

Her second novel, Forever or Just for a While? (2020), is a loose continuation of the first book. In it, the author returns to her favorite characters – the acting duo Alice and Roman, who are not only stage partners but also lovers, deciding to finally give their relationship more space.

The third novel, I Listen (2021), tells, in the author’s words,
“an intimate story of a young marriage between two very busy professionals with two small children. The intimate atmosphere of family life and everyday worries that accumulate like grains of sand in a desert. Jakub owns an advertising agency and is overwhelmed with work and business concerns. His wife Bára is a psychologist who patiently listens to her clients every day to help solve their problems, even though she herself has plenty on her mind.”

The main heroine of the fourth novel, There Is Still Time (2022), is a journalist who has so far drifted through life without firm commitments. The author asks:
“Is that enough? On the threshold of forty, Valerie decides on a radical life change. She wants to believe there is still time… Aboard a boat in the middle of the Laccadive Sea atolls, dramas unfold that will fundamentally change the direction of her life.”
