This comprehensive, peer-reviewed publication summarizes the archaeological research conducted by the museum in the historic centre of Valašské Meziříčí. It focuses primarily on research of the central square with its Marian column, the parish church, the Church of the Holy Trinity, the remains of the town fortifications, the chapel and courtyard of the Žerotín Castle, and two bourgeois houses. Thanks to its diverse team of authors, it offers readers a complex view of the origins and development of the town of Valašské Meziříčí, not only from an archaeological perspective, but also in terms of history, architecture, and urban planning. The results presented are a significant contribution to research into the origins and development of urban agglomerations not only in the Czech Republic, but also in Central Europe.
The book Valašské Meziříčí – Medieval and Early Modern Town – Archaeology was published by the Memoria Porta association in cooperation with the Museum of the Moravian Wallachia region. The book was financed by the town of Valašské Meziříčí.
