Special evening observations will take place during the spring holidays of local schools at the Vsetín Observatory. The event will focus primarily on observing Jupiter, the largest planet in the Solar System, as well as selected brighter objects from deep space. Please note that observations will only take place under suitable weather conditions. In case of cancellation, we will inform you no later than one hour before the scheduled start on the Facebook page of the Museum of the Valašsko Region (@muzeumregionuvalassko).

WHAT AWAITS YOU

Through the telescope, we will observe the darker cloud bands in Jupiter’s atmosphere and, in excellent observing conditions, possibly even the enormous storm known as the Great Red Spot. Near the giant planet, we will also see the four large Galilean moons – Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto.

From distant space objects, visitors will see, for example, the most famous open star cluster M45, the Pleiades, where they can test their eyesight by trying to spot it with the naked eye, or the Great Orion Nebula (M42). Inside it, the telescope will reveal the Trapezium – a group of four young stars arranged in a trapezoid shape. And for those who wish to look really far away, we will also observe the spiral galaxy M31 in the constellation Andromeda, located 2.5 million light-years from Earth!

Visitors to the Vsetín Observatory will have access to a telescope inside the observatory dome, or alternatively a portable telescope set up in front of the dome.

The observations will be accompanied by engaging commentary from the observatory’s professional staff.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

The observations will take place only under suitable weather conditions. In case of cancellation, we will inform you each day no later than one hour before the planned start on the Facebook page of the Museum of the Valašsko Region (@muzeumregionuvalassko).
