A new exhibition showcasing lamps and lighting fixtures from the renowned glassworks S. Reich & Co will kick off on Saturday, April 27th at Kinský Castle in Valašské Meziříčí. The grand opening will take place at 2 p.m. as part of the traditional event Glassworks Magic.

A Brief History

When Count Eugen Kinský founded a glassworks in Krásno on his estates in 1854, he arranged for its operation with the family company S. Reich & Co. Over the following years, the company became one of the largest enterprises in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and the glassworks in Krásno specialized in glass production for lighting fixtures over the next century.

About the Exhibition

The exhibition "Light with the Scent of Kerosene" presents kerosene lamps as well as other glassware designed for various light sources, produced by the S. Reich & Co glassworks between 1855 and 1934 in Valašské Meziříčí-Krásno. Visitors will also have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the entire dynasty of the Reich family, the extent of its glassmaking empire, and of course, the history of the Krásno glassworks. Among the fragile exhibits on display will be luxurious table lamps, glass decorated with etching, painting, and cut glass. Some of the lights have been completed and restored specifically for this exhibition. The exhibited items come from the collection of the Museum of Moravian Wallachia region and the collection of the National Open-air Museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm.

Grand Opening During Sklářské kouzlení

The exhibition will commence on April 27th at 2 p.m. during the Glassworks Magic event. Guided tours with the exhibition curator will take place on April 27th at 3 p.m. and on May 18th as part of the Open Day. An educational program for school groups, Glassworking Craft, is prepared for the exhibition. More skilled students have the opportunity to participate in the workshop Art and Craft in the Region - Glass.
