The Muzeum of Moravian Wallachia Region has prepared a new exhibition for you at Kinských Castle, which presents the history of gingerbread and the gingerbread craft, its evidence in Wallachia, as well as the present day of decorated gingerbread in the region.

The first mention of gingerbread in our country dates back to 1335. Today it is a fairly common pastry, but until the 18th century it was a luxury item intended only for the richest households. At the time, its main ingredient was expensive honey and even more expensive imported spices, such as pepper (from which the name gingerbread – originally „peprník“), cinnamon, cardamom, star anise or anise.

The development from pressed gingerbread to gingerbread decorated with egg whites is documented by the work of several contemporary creators from Wallachia (Jarmila Zetochová from Valašské Meziříčí and Ivona Žídková from Kunovice) and world-famous confectioners from the Secondary School in Vsetín.

A unique feature of the exhibition will also be „Father Machač's gingerbread nativity scene“, which was specially baked by confectioner Daniel Zítka for this exhibition.

The exhibition also includes playful elements for children and adults. Can you recognize the types of gingerbread spices by smell? Do you know, how to prepare traditional gingerbread dough? Can you decorate a gingerbread with a drawing? You can try all of this here.
