The Glassmaking Secondary School in Valašské Meziříčí celebrates its 80th anniversary this year, and this significant milestone will be commemorated by the new exhibition "Between Glass," prepared for you by the Valašsko Region Museum at Kinský Castle. The grand opening will take place on Saturday, April 27th, starting at 2 p.m. as part of the traditional Glassmaking Magic (Sklářské kouzlení) event.

FROM THE SCHOOL'S HISTORY

In 1944, the Českomoravské Glassworks established a glassmaking school in Valašské Meziříčí. It was intended for employees of company glassworks – including those from Vsetín, Karolínina Huť, Jablůnka, and Úsobrno. Over the decades, the school transformed from a craft apprenticeship into a school of applied arts, now offering not only two glass-related disciplines (Glass Design and Combined Artistic Glass Processing) but also studies in Applied Painting and Industrial Design.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

The only glassmaking school in Moravia will showcase a variety of colorful student glass works at the exhibition, including pieces awarded in specialized competitions. The exhibition will also feature works by glassmaking faculty. The school not only preserves and continues the traditional glassmaking of the region but also advances it further, whether through honoring significant figures (Krásenská Trace, hand casting into glass) or the creative Glass Symposium of Valašské Meziříčí – these achievements also find their place in the exhibition. An interesting highlight of the exhibition is a replica of the shade from the Titanic steamship, created from the historical shade of the S. Reich & Co. glassworks by combining modern technology with traditional craftsmanship.

GRAND OPENING DURING SKLÁŘSKÉ KOUZLENÍ

The exhibition will commence on April 27th at 2 p.m. during the Sklářské kouzlení event. Guided tours will take place on April 27th at 3 p.m. and on May 18th as part of the Open Doors Day. An educational program for school groups called Glass Craft is prepared for the exhibition, and more skilled students have the opportunity to participate in the Workshop Art and Craft in the Region – Glass.
